About the Coaching Staff
Brett Ickes
This is Coach Ickes' 8th year at Carlisle. He has been coaching for the past 10 years. He is a graduate of Big Spring High School and Mansfield University where he played linebacker. He is the defensive co-ordinator and the quaterbacks and inside linebackers coach.
Scott Freeland
Coach Freeland returned to Carlisle to coach 11 years ago. He coaches the outside linebackers and offensive line. He is a graduate of Carlisle class of l982. He was the captain and linebacker of the 1981 team, which is the last undefeated and untied team in Carlisle. There were no playoffs at that time, but Carlisle was ranked from number 1 to number 4 in the state by various polls. He received All State Honors while playing at Carlisle. He is a greaudate of James Madison University, where he played linebacker, and Dickson School of Law.
Bill Owens
Coach Owens is a mainstay with Carlisle football. He coaches the running backs and the defensive secondary. He graduated form Carlisle in 1963. He played halfback and defensive back and received many honors. Among them were all conference, 2 times in what was then called the South Penn League. He began his coaching career in Carlisle in 1983. This is the third time he has returned to Carlisle. He also had coaching stints at Harrisburg, Central Dauphin East, and Mercersburg, where he was the defensive coordinator. He also has been a past defensive coordinator at Carlisle.
Terran Roberts
This is Coach Roberts second year of coaching. He coaches the defensive tackles and offensive line. He graduated from Carlisle in 1999 and was a left tackle on the Mid-Penn Championship team. He graduated from Dickinson College in 2003 where he was a offensive line starter for 3 years. He was named All Centennial Conference in 2001. In high school he was a Mid-Penn all star in 1998. He also was named All Sentinel (2nd team) in 1998.
Jerry L. Harris
Jerry was born and raised in Columbus, Mississippi where he attended Stephen D. Lee High School. From his freshman year until his senior year he played on the varsity football squad and was voted All-Conference player in his junior and senior year. He also lettered in basketball and track & field.
He received a scholarship to attend Mississippi Valley State College where he played along with Jerry Rice and several other players that went on to play pro football. Harris was one of the top linemen for four years and again was voted All-Conference player fo the S.W.A.C. Jerry attempted to continue his football career beyond college with the Houston Gamblers but that was short-lived due to knee injuries.
After his senior year in college he assisted with coaching the linemen for Mississippi Valley. Jerry also coached with the Carlisle Midget Football program for five years. He has a complete love for the game of football.
